Acromegaly Reality Discussion Guide
Use this guide to help you talk to your doctor about your acromegaly reality.
Talk to your doctor
It’s not always easy to bring up how you’re feeling. Here are some conversation starters to help you get the most out of conversations with your doctor.
- “If my insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) level is in the normal range, but I still feel symptoms, what does that mean?”
- “I’ve tracked my symptoms. Here’s what I’ve noticed…”
- “I am having some issues managing my treatment. What can be done about that?”
- “I want to manage both my IGF-1 level and my symptoms. What are my options?”
- “Is my IGF-1 level in the target range?”

Track your symptoms
What’s the reality of your symptom control? Before your next appointment, jot down your symptoms, how intense they are, and how often they occur.
- Fatigue
- Headaches
- Difficulty sleeping
- Sweating
- Swelling
- Difficulty with short-term memory
- Joint pain
- Leg weakness
- Numbness/tingling

Take charge of your health
Your voice matters in your treatment plan. Here’s how to make sure you’re heard.
- Be specific: instead of saying “I feel bad,” describe exactly what’s wrong (eg, “I wake up exhausted every day” or “My joints ache constantly”)
- Bring support: a friend or family member can help advocate for you and remember key details from the visit
- Ask questions: if something isn’t clear, ask your doctor to explain it in simple terms
- Push for solutions: if your symptoms persist, ask about adjusting your treatment
- Follow up: if things don’t improve, schedule another visit to discuss next steps
Your treatment should help you feel better—not just look good on paper
You deserve to feel your best. Ask questions. Talk to your doctor to find the right treatment plan that is based on your Acromegaly Reality.
